With used car prices in the current market, it’s hard to believe that you could still find a good deal on a desirable vehicle. However, with gas prices driving many people towards more practical and fuel-efficient cars, you might be surprised at the bargains you can find on sports cars. Sure, they’re not the optimal vehicle for everyday use. However, if you’re looking for a fun weekender but don’t want to break the bank, here are five used sports cars you can buy right now for less than $15,000.
Third generation Mazda MX-5 Miata (NC).
Despite their recent price increase, you can’t create an affordable sports car list without including the Mazda Miata. While the prices of the first generation Miatas skyrocket, the less popular third generation (or NC) models offer modern conveniences, classic sports car handling, great fuel economy and a great price.
According to US News, consumers can have a 2010 Mazda Miata for around $10,000. With fuel economy figures of 22mpg city and 28mpg highway, it’s the perfect compromise between spirited driving and decent fuel savings.
2005-2014 Ford Mustang (S197)
Obviously, with gas prices as they are now, a V8-powered car is not the optimal choice. However, if filling it up is in your budget, or you just plan on driving it occasionally, then by all means do it!
The powerplant of the S197 Mustang ranges from a V6 to the modular 4.6-liter V8 or Coyote 5.0 V8. US News lists the average price for a 2010 model as between $9,078 and $13,161. However, for a GT model with a V8 under the hood, expect to be right on the cusp of the $15,000 budget in today’s market.
Nissan 370Z
The Nissan 370Z remains the latest offering in the long history of Z vehicles. That’s until the official release of the 2023 Nissan Z.
It offers phenomenal handling and sports car feeling with its tapered body lines and V6 engine with up to 350 hp. In addition, both coupe and convertible variants are available.
You should spend between $12,689 and $13,753 on a 2010 Nissan 370Z.
Scion FR-S

The Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT-86 are all the same car. A joint venture between Subaru and Toyota, these legendary affordable sports car models are known for their remarkable driveability and fun rear-wheel drive capabilities.
The FR-S comes with a 2.0-liter Subaru boxer four-cylinder engine. While it’s not the most powerful unit out there, the 200hp output is more than enough to have a good time.
There are many examples of used 2013 FR-S models for under $15,000. However, for someone in excellent shape, expect to hit the budget.
Chevy Camaro
This one is a bit of a stretch, as the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a Camaro is V8 power. Finding a V8 Camaro under $15,000 is a bit of a stretch, however.
That being said, the fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro, which spans the 2010 through 2015 model years, is an option to consider. Unfortunately, buyers on a $15,000 budget will likely have to stick with V6 models. While it might not have the same grunt as the V8s, they still have plenty of pickup for the average driver. Better still, the V6 models get better fuel economy.
As with any car, buy for yourself, not for others
While you’ll “settle” for an NC Miata or a V6 powerplant in a car that has traditionally had a V8, it may draw some mockery, but it’s important to remember that you’re buying a sports car for yourself to enjoy yourself. If you just want a car to show off, you’re in it for the wrong reasons!
If any of these cars appeal to your taste and budget, you should definitely go for them! You won’t regret getting behind the wheel of one of these amazing cars.
