“Women don’t know how to park”, “Woman at the wheel, dead at the turn”… Clichés that die hard. Yet the figures are formal: women have fewer accidents than men and are much more careful than them at the wheel. It’s not The argus who says it, but the comparator assurland.com, which went hunting for received ideas*.

Premiums on the rise for women
Let’s make things clear right away: girls report fewer claims than boys, but more material accidents. As a result, the increase reduction coefficient (CRM), which makes it possible to calculate the insurance premium, is less advantageous for women (0.73) than for men (0.69). But, in the year 2021, 80% of female drivers have not experienced any setbacks with their insurance for three years. This is 3 points more than men. And, when it comes to recidivism, gentlemen are less well off: 10% of them declare between two and five accidents each year.
So men are responsible for more at-fault bodily accidents than women, and their claims cost more to compensate, according to assurland.com. This can partly be explained by the fact that 60 % of men drive more than 15,000 km per year. A share reduced to 56% among women. If there is no longer any price difference according to your gender since 2013, the comparator still notes that ” women no longer benefit from their lower claims in the statistical calculation of their risk “. Result: all segments combined, premiums for women increased by 12% relative to men.
The Peugeot 206, girls’ favorite car

Assurland.com also listed the most insured models for each gender. Without surprise, men drive more SUVs and fewer city cars than their female counterparts. The Peugeot 3008, the best-selling compact model with us, is for example ninth in the men’s table but only eighteenth in the women’s. Otherwise, it is the aging Peugeot 206 which is ahead of the Clio (all generations combined) by a short head in the women’s ranking.

On the brand ranking side, we note that BMW, Audi and Mercedes are positioned from fifth to seventh place among men, while only the ring builder is present in the women’s top 10. The reason according to assurland.com ? The proportion of men driving 4 x 4s or SUVs is greater, and premium brands offer a large number of these models in their catalogs.
