Aside from his successful films, Keanu Reeves is also known to be quite the motorcycle enthusiast. An avid motorcycle enthusiast, Reeves has owned a Suzuki GS1100E, a 1974 BMW 750, a 1984 Harley-Davidson Shovelhead, a Kawasaki KZ 900 and a Moto Guzzi.
However, Reeves only has one of its four-wheel drive vehicles, the Porsche 911 Black Carrera 4S. His loyalty to that particular vehicle stems from multiple motorcycle accidents that reminded him of both their limitations and his own. Let’s look at Reeves’ love affair with speed and his Porsche 911.
Keanu Reeves wanted to be a racing driver
Keanu Reeves’ childhood dream was to become a nuclear physicist and racing driver. He loved the sounds and shapes of the racing cars as they raced around the track. He was inspired by the races he saw on TV. Also, his sister dated a race car driver. As a result, he was offered a high-speed fun ride through the south of France.
Reeves often does his own stunts behind the wheel thanks to his passion for speed. Though he never became a full-fledged racer as an adult, he can play one from time to time, which is the next best thing. Among his favorite sports car types, Reeves is loyal to one particular vehicle, the Porsche 911.
Reeves chose the Porsche 911 after a few motorcycle accidents
Keanu Reeves has said that taking part in several motorcycle accidents has taught him the limits of the machine as well as his limitations. This is another reason why he chose the Porsche 911 as his signature vehicle. He told Porsche: “I enjoy the fact that the car allows me to be fast and efficient. I developed a bond with it.”
When Reeves starts filming in a new location, he buys a motorcycle and sells the motorcycle after filming is complete. After filming point break and speed, he opted for a Porsche. He opted for a black Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, the classic Type 993. He affectionately called it “sleigh” because of its speed and slim appearance. Unfortunately the car was stolen, probably because it was one of Porsche’s last air-cooled engines. Although Reeves seems to be a one-car guy, his love of motorcycles isn’t as monogamous.
Keanu Reeves starts his own motorcycle brand
Keanu Reeves has teamed up with Los Angeles-based motorcycle customizer Gard Hollinger to build a one-of-a-kind motorcycle inspired by the Porsche 911. The idea was to take a classic design and make it suitable for everyday use, speed and performance. While Reeves was filming John WickHollinger was busy building their first bike, the KRGT-1.
This motorcycle was the beginning of what would later become the Arch Motorcycle Company. The company is a collaboration between Reeves and Hollinger. Reeves says their bikes “always look beautiful and perform just as brilliantly.” Reeves says he modeled the bike after the Porsche character because he believes it has a timeless quality.
As one of Hollywood’s most popular action heroes, Reeves gets to drive some of the most exotic vehicles on the market. Reeves has also made a name for himself off the screen as a certified gearhead. With all the money he makes, you’d think Reeves would have a garage full of exotic cars. However, Reeves knows what he likes and selects few vehicles for his personal collection.
