“If we drive a lot it takes about three to four hours to fully charge and we need well over 300 miles of range depending on how fast you drive,” he explained.

He said the cost of electricity for his battery-powered Tesla is based on about 11 cents per kilowatt-hour.

“If we drain the car to zero and charge it to full, you’re talking about an overall cost of $8 to $10 for a full charge,” he said.

In his experience, today the savings seem to be drastically smaller than charging a vehicle instead of filling it with petrol.

However, the initial cost of an electric vehicle is almost $20,000 more on average.

According to the Kelley Blue Book, the average cost of an electric vehicle is about $65,000 while the average cost of a regular gas vehicle is $42,000.
