soon a vignette for classic cars

In France, many cities have imposed ZFEs (low emission zones). They block access to polluting vehicles towns. But what about for the collectible vehicles ? Are they also affected? Thanks to the requests of the FFVE (French Federation of Vintage Vehicles), which have been heard by the government, vintage vehicles will be able to continue to circulate in the ZFEs.

ZFE: collector’s vehicles should be able to circulate freely there

Classic car owners can rejoice: the negotiations of the FFVE are making great strides with the government so that these vehicles can continue to circulate everywhere, without penalty. The Federation has announced that it has obtained the approval of four major cities: Greater Paris, Lyon, Strasbourg and Toulouse. However, other large cities are still in the “project” phase: Arras, La Rochelle, Lille, Toulon, Marseille, Saint-Étienne, Grenoble, Bordeaux, Greater Nancy and even the Arve Valley.

Along with nine other automotive institutions (Automotive Platform, Mobilians Historic Vehicles, FFSA, FFM, AC France, AC Ouest, AC Monaco, FIVA, and FIA – Historic Commission), the FFVE succeeded in winning its case with metropolises that have set up EPZs. However, this only concerns vehicles holding the “collection” crisis card. For the others, traffic restrictions remain.

Recall that the 2019 Mobility Orientation Law (LOM) defined a regulatory framework allowing several French cities to impose ZFEs if air quality standards are regularly exceeded.

Sensitive to this question, Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, Minister Delegate for Transport supports the request: “We are committed to ensuring that vintage vehicles continue to amaze the French in cities and elsewhere. Collector vehicles are part of our history. »

Barbara Pompili, Minister for the Ecological Transition, had also announced to the Assembly during the deliberation on the Climate and Resilience law “We all agree on these benches to recognize that vintage vehicles are part of our heritage and contribute positively to our daily lives. I repeat to all classic car lovers, you will have no problems with the ZFE-m. You just have to technically fix things. »

A sticker dedicated to collector’s vehicles

How this specific authorization for collection vehicles will take the form of a thumbnail similar to Crit’Air thumbnails. A sticker that will therefore attach to the windshield of the vehicle. “The government has also decided to create in the short term a specific sticker for collector’s vehicles in order to facilitate the application of these measures. The FFVE will be associated with the working group on the implementation of automated control systems in the ZFE-m territories”, can we read in a press release from the FFVE.

However, we do not yet know how it will be possible to obtain this vignette, nor its cost.
