Cheapest for 17 year olds

The Volkswagen up! is the cheapest car for younger drivers to be insured for the second month running, with an average premium of £713.

According to Admiral, the following models are the cheapest for 17-year-olds who want to insure their car:

  1. Volkswagen up! – £712.91
  2. Citroën C1 – £751.83
  3. Peugeot 107 – £778.54
  4. Kia Picanto – £789.18
  5. Hyundai i10 – £818.78
  6. Fiat 500 – £847.93
  7. Ford Ka – £890.82
  8. Toyota Aygo – £902.56
  9. Peugeot 208 – £911.19
  10. Toyota Yaris – £940.45

Cheapest family cars

The latest data shows that for the second month in a row, the Ford Puma is the cheapest option for families (drivers with children under the age of 16).

With average premiums of £302, the Ford Puma has also seen its price fall 2% from March to April.

The Volkswagen up! continues to be a versatile option for many different drivers, with awards of £309 for drivers with children under 16.

For sports cars, Porsche Boxster premiums are below the national average (£411) for the second straight month.

The BMW Z4 and the Mazda MX-5 also have premiums below the national average.

However, drivers wanting to get behind the wheel of a Porsche Taycan will have to pay more than double the national average (£1,166).

However, drivers wanting to get behind the wheel of a Tesla Model 3 will have to pay over a third more than the national average (£866).
