The 10 electric cars with the best autonomy on the highway

In 2035, thermal cars will be a thing of the past… at least in dealerships. Electric cars will then have the field completely free. But in 2022, how far can they take us on the highway? Here is this ranking, based on the measurements made by our colleagues from Auto Bild, whom we salute for the initiative. If the distances do not allow to cross France, we are still approaching beautiful stages since some can last more than 3 hours at a steady pace. The highway is obviously the worst for the consumption of an electric car, since there is very little energy recovery under braking, and the highest cruising speed. As you will see, the highest ranked models are also the most expensive on the market. For the motorist with the standard budget, we are still far from the mark!

Mercedes-EQ, EQS 580 4MATIC

1 – Mercedes EQS 580 4MATIC: 444 km

As soon as it was released, this thermal equivalent of the S-Class set the bar very high in terms of autonomy with very large on-board batteries. This allows this EQS 580 4MATIC to travel 444 km on the highway without recharging. A score that we would like to see arrive on more accessible models!

The new SUV EQS is not part of the comparison, but should also be in the 10 best electric models in autonomy on the highway, with the same technologies as the sedan.

BMW iX xDrive 50
BMW iX xDrive 50

2 -BMW iX xDrive 50: 434 km

At BMW, we are very close to Mercedes, with the brand’s new electric flagship: the iX SUV.

Ford Mustang Mach-E GT
Ford Mustang Mach-E GT

3 – Ford Mustang Mach-E GT: 367 km

Surprising proposal from Ford, this electric SUV….Mustang! in its GT version, it allows itself to achieve a feat by being third in the standings.

Audi e-tron GT
Audi e-tron GT

Joint 3rd – Audi RS e-tron GT: 367 km

Audi finishes behind its two historical rivals in this exercise: enough to relaunch the race for the biggest battery?

Porsche Taycan 4S
Porsche Taycan 4S

5 – Porsche Taycan 4S: 352 km

Despite its high price, the Porsche does not manage to beat the competition in autonomy. Anyway, it remains the sportiest.

Tesla Model 3
Tesla Model 3

6 – Performance of the Tesla Model 3: 337 km

At Tesla, the Model 3 is not a discount Tesla with, on the contrary, very high benefits. Made here with logically the most expensive version.

Volkswagen ID.4 GTX
Volkswagen ID.4 GTX

7 – VW ID.4 GTX: 332 km

At Volkswagen, since the TDI scandal, everything has been done to restore the brand’s image. The electrified range is growing rapidly, and among them a long-range ID.4 GTX. The ID.4 Pro is just behind with 328 km.

Audi Q4 e-tron 40
Audi Q4 e-tron 40

8 – Audi Q4 e-tron 40: 326 km

Grouped shot for the VW group: logical, these three models from different brands that follow one another share a technical platform, engine and battery!

Skoda Enyaq iV80
Skoda Enyaq iV80

9 – Skoda Enyaq iV80: 316 km

We are far from the low-end Skodas of the 90s: here the Czech brand is playing in the big leagues with an electric SUV with a particularly high level of performance.

Kia EV6
Kia EV6

10 – Kia EV6: 305 km

And finally last place in this ranking with the only Korean (and even Asian) model in the selection with this amazing Kia EV6.
